It depends on the upgrade. If the new network still uses multimode fiber and compatible connectors (MPO and LC), then the patchcord can likely be reused. However, if the upgrade requires single-mode fiber or different connector types, the patchcord will need to be replaced.?
If the jacket is slightly damaged but the fibers inside are not exposed or damaged, you can use heat-shrink tubing to repair the area. However, if the fibers are exposed or damaged, the patchcord should be replaced to avoid signal loss or failure.?
When working near the patchcord, be careful not to step on it or pull it. Use proper tools when disconnecting connectors to avoid damaging the latches. Store any unused lengths of cable properly, coiled loosely and with protective caps on the connectors.
OM4 fiber can support 400Gbps over short distances (up to approximately 50 meters) using certain transceiver technologies.
